The crime of stalking has become a serious and widespread problem in the United States, causing 7.5 million Americans to make significant changes to the way they live their lives, fearing for their safety, and that of their family members. Stalking involves a stalker making repeated attempts to contact, or interfere with the life of, the victim.

Cyber stalking is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization. It may include false accusations, monitoring, making threats, identity theft, and damage to data or equipment, the solicitation of minors for sex, or gathering information in order to harass.
